The Power and Ministry of Music
Music has the power to offer peace and comfort in times of grief: Psalm 137: There on the poplars we hung our harps, for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land?
Music has the means to transcend words and act as a vehicle for the Spirit, with sighs too deep for words: “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent” - Victor Hugo
And finally, music unites us and celebrates the ongoing rhythms of life: Psalm 96:1 “Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth!”
If you have musical talent, or a desire to be involved in some way with music, there is a place for you with the BHUMC Music Ministry. Belmont Heights has had a long history of top notch music and burgeoning talent. We are an essential facet of the worship service, and our outreach extends to our brothers and sisters both within our district area, as well as with other faiths and neighboring spiritual communities. We appeal to a variety of worship needs because we have an eclectic repertoire, ranging from soulful spirituals and praise songs to Bluegrass. We even have a ukulele group!
