Pastor, Cheryl Kelly
My personal mission statement: to live in grace as a child of God with energy, excitement, and enthusiasm (E3)
After careers as a mother, a secretary, and a software engineer – among others – I was called to ministry as an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church. I graduated from Claremont School of Theology with a Master of Divinity degree in 2006 and began serving as pastor of St. Paul’s UMC in Redondo Beach on July 1, 2006. On January 3, 2011, I was assigned to serve as pastor of Belmont Heights United Methodist Church in Long Beach. I feel especially blessed to be here and to have the opportunity to plant the seeds for God’s love and grace in Long Beach.
I have two grown sons, five grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter. Sean is senior pastor at Peñasquitos Lutheran Church in San Diego. He and his wife, Jenny, have four sons – Lance, Kyle, Andrew, and Jack (all taller than I am). Lance and his wife, Kim, have a son, Kane, and a daughter, Riley - my great-grandchildren!
Joel is a pastor at Red Hill Lutheran Church in Tustin. He and his wife, Heather, have a son and a daughter – Joseph and Hannah (both are taller than I am).
I grew up in Springfield, Illinois, but have spent most of my adult life in southern California. I still have two sisters and their families in Illinois, so I visit often to maintain those ties. I also root for the Cubs (2016 was a VERY good year!) and the Bears.
In my free time, I like to be with my family, walk on the beach, and take pictures of anything and everything. When I can do all three at once, I am a happy camper!
Recently I have tried to play golf, which may or may not be relaxing!
